DUI Program
Driving With CARE (DWC) is a three level education and treatment program for persons convicted of driving while impaired ( DWI). Clients learn that change in behavior is made by changing their thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. They learn about their own patterns of drug use and abuse and how to make cognitive and behavioral changes so as to prevent recidivism into DWI behavior and prevent future involvement in pattern of alcohol or other drug (AOD) use that can lead to AOD problem and to impaired driving behavior.
DWC is an interactive, rational, multimodal and multi-media program in which participants will take an active part in exercises, work sheets, and group discussions. The main objective of the protocols is to have clients relate and apply the lesson and sessions material to their own unique circumstances and situation. The DWC intervention program is built on a cognitive-behavioral platform that will help clients:
Learn the skills of cognitive restructuring to
enhance self-control over thinking and actions;
Learn social and relationship skills so as to
enhance responsible behavior towards others;
Learn skills to enhance responsible behavior towards the community.
Participants learn that Driving with CARE means caring about themselves and others. We want CARE to be an important part of their driving and CARING to be an important part of their lives. Our overall goal is to help clients take full responsibility for themselves, others, and their community. And so, what this program is really about is helping clients to develop approaches and strategies for responsible living and change.
